Well, I had the post below completed but didn't save before posting--and yes, I lost the second half of the post! Where were we? Oh yeah, Sharon was getting paid to watch people.
At 2 PM we boarded the plane for our 4 1/2 flight. It was just the two of us in our row and little did we know how fortuitous that would be. The lite rain that was coming down as we boarded turned intense as we sat and looked out the plane window. Not long after, the apparent ease of the day was ending. The captain announced a slight delay as the ground crew had been called in for lightening and couldn't finish loading the plane. Another delay; and then the sun came out and we were on our way, so we thought. Then the captain came on and told us the weather to the south in our flight plan was stormy as well and we would be rerouted. This apparently took awhile as we sat for another long stretch. We finally felt the plane move! We taxied to what felt like "Iowa", I could have walked us there faster!! Finally 3 1/2 later we were speeding down the runway. Thankfully we were able to take turns lying down to sleep. We landed with a jolt in Liberia, Costa Rica at 10:30pm, 4 hours later than expected. Thankfully we breezed through Immigration and customs and our rental car rep met us (poor guy) to take us to the car. I had expected to have the car rental near the airport and I became apprehensive as we drove out of the airport and the opposite way of our hotel. This had my navigational receptors on high alert knowing I had to drive us back, but since there were no street signs nor markers I lost track of where we were. We arrived at a dark rental office, only our driver, his dog and us! Another glitch. The insurance rate we were quoted was now doubled. Calling credit card companies, travel agents at midnight is not a great way to resolve an issue out of the country. I lost 11 pounds sitting in this hot office, not that there was a scale, but judging by the puddle in front of me, I can't be far off. We signed all of the papers, did the walk around the small SUV and loaded our luggage. Time to drive!
